Our Limited-Edition Library Cards are Here!

In September, to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month, we held a Library Card Design Contest. We had many wonderful entries that touched our hearts. All library staff voted on their favorite designs and the winners were Avery, who is in ninth grade, and Elise, who is in 4th Grade.

Avery is a freshman at OPRF High School and lives in River Forest with her parents and 3 sisters. She enjoys drawing, birds, basketball, sketching, journaling, crocheting, and reading.

Here is how Avery described her creative process for her card design:

“It took multiple steps to get the finished product of my design. I started sketching some ideas in my sketchbook and once I had the design I liked, I re-drew my rough draft on thick paper with pencil then pens. When my outline was finished, I scanned it onto my iPad and added color digitally.  I wanted the finished product to have a graphic novel illustration feel to it.

My design was inspired by the different genres of books that are in libraries. I love my library because there are so many different books to choose from, and there is a book for every person.  I incorporated this idea into my design by having each person hold a book of a different genre.”

Elise has been a patron of the River Forest library since an early age! She loves to create art by drawing, painting, and sewing. Elise also loves to dance and swim. Her favorite book is The Wild Robot, by Peter Brown.

Limited edition library cards, featuring these winning designs, are now available. These special cards also come with a key tag, so that you always have your library card handy.
