Facilities Associate

 

Hours: 18 hours / week

Monday: 3pm-9pm

Wednesday: 3pm-9pm

Alternating Friday and Saturday: 11am-5pm

Description: Part-time position that performs duties related to the physical operation of the building, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for patrons and staff.

Status: Non exempt

Reports to: Assistant Director

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Setting up meeting rooms for programs, events, and other functions.
  • Performing custodial duties such as stocking staff and public restrooms with supplies, running and emptying the break room dishwasher, vacuuming and mopping as needed, and resolving urgent cleaning tasks.
  • Performing light snow removal and salting of outdoor Library walkways.
  • Assisting with the maintenance of Library grounds including watering planters.
  • Working with the Persons-In-Charge (PICs) to secure the building at the end of the day and perform closing duties.
  • Providing uniformly consistent, respectful, and friendly services to Library patrons and staff.
  • Patrolling the building and grounds for inappropriate activity and working with PICs to take appropriate action in accordance with Library policies.
  • Assisting with light maintenance tasks as needed such as changing lightbulbs or assembling furniture.
  • Assisting other departments as needed.
  • Participating in relevant training, continuing education, or professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Necessary Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work pleasantly and effectively with staff, patrons, supervisors, and others.
  • Ability to work accurately in a changing and varied environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to use various technologies to complete work, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and productively.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for a considerable amount of time. Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and climb.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push carts that weigh up to 100 pounds.

Education / Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Building maintenance work experience preferred.
  • Experience working with the public preferred.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
