Our New Community Room Is Now Open

We’re thrilled to announce the completion of a significant building project that adds a flexible community meeting room, an ADA‑compliant bathroom, and updated staff workspaces to the Library.

Creating new space in our historic, landlocked building was a challenge! The journey began in 2023 when we relocated our air handler outside, freeing up space for a new room. In 2024, we transformed the area into a safe, unfinished space—ready for its final makeover.

The final phase of work began in September 2025. The new Community Room features modern lighting, a presentation screen, cabinetry and a sink, seating for 20, and six meeting tables—offering a fresh, flexible space for programs, meetings, and gatherings. The project also includes a new ADA‑accessible restroom in the Children’s area and refreshed office spaces for Children’s Services staff.

This project was made possible thanks to generous support from the RFPL Foundation, a $100,000 patron bequest, and an Illinois State Library grant. The Foundation contributed $100,000 to Phase 1 and $300,000 toward the final phase, with additional funding from our Capital Fund.

We are grateful to the project team: Enberg Anderson (architect), Midwest Services and Development (contractor), and Henricksen & Company (furniture provider).

This room may be reserved for public meetings and accommodates up to 26 people. When not in use, it is available as a flexible walk‑up space for studying or private meetings. Walk‑up use is offered on a first‑come, first‑served basis and is limited to two hours per day.

We invite you to visit the Library and explore this beautiful new space as we continue to grow and serve the community.
