Celebrate 120 Years of the River Forest Public Library!

On September 26, 1905, the River Forest Public Library officially opened its doors at 508 Park Avenue, with just 1,000 volumes on the shelves. Our first librarian, Mrs. Stella H. Nida, earned a modest $15 per month. Over the years, the Library steadily grew—expanding its hours, adding new books, and launching programs that enriched the lives of our community.

We invite you to explore the full story of our journey and growth.

While much has changed since 1905, our core values remain strong. As stated in our mission, we strive to bring the community, information, and ideas together—enriching lives through access to high-quality resources, learning opportunities for all ages, exceptional events, and knowledgeable staff in a welcoming atmosphere.
