Join us as we celebrate the grand opening of our new Community Room on Saturday, January 31 at 9 AM. We’ll have an opening ceremony at 9 AM followed by refreshments. Stop by anytime throughout the day to explore the space and see what’s new!
Creating new space in our historic, landlocked building was a challenge! The journey began in 2023 when we relocated our air handler outside, freeing up space for a new room. In 2024, we transformed the area into a safe, unfinished space—ready for its final makeover.
The final phase of work began in September 2025. The new room provides a multi-purpose community space with modern finishes, including updated lighting, a screen for presentations, a sink and cabinetry, seating for 20, and 6 meeting tables. A new ADA-accessible bathroom has been added to the children's space (see photo), and Children’s staff offices have been updated.
This project was made possible thanks to generous support from the RFPL Foundation, a $100,000 patron bequest, and an Illinois State Library grant. The Foundation contributed $100,000 to Phase 1 and $300,000 toward the final phase, with additional funding from our Capital Fund.
Enberg Anderson was the architect for the final phase of the project. Midwest Services and Development was the contractor, and Henricksen & Company was the furniture provider.
We’re excited to share this new space with you. Come celebrate with us on January 31 and see how your library continues to grow!
