The History of Cookie Exchanges
Did you know? Cookie swaps date back to medieval Europe. Dutch settlers brought the custom to America in the 1600s, and by 1703, New York hosted its first recorded exchange. Even George Washington joined the fun! The word “cookie” itself comes from the Dutch word koekje, meaning “little cake.”
Over time, immigrants added their own recipes, making cookie exchanges a beloved holiday custom. Now it’s your turn to be part of the tradition!
