Farewell to Dorothy Houlihan

Long-time Adult Services Librarian has accepted new position.

We are sad to announce that Dorothy Houlihan will be leaving River Forest Public Library for a new opportunity with Niles-Maine District Library. We will miss her passion, dedication, and vast literary and library knowledge.

Dorothy has been a valued member of the River Forest Public Library team since 2005, when she headed up the Children’s Department to fill in during a maternity leave. She eventually made her way upstairs where she found her true passion, working with adults. One of her favorite and greatest skills is helping our community find books to love — whether through book talks, her monthly booklists, or in person at the service desk – and her knowledge will be hard to match.

Dorothy shared that she has always loved coming to work, especially because of her co-workers and the community. While she will miss her River Forest connections, Dorothy is looking forward to new challenges at Niles. In her role as Adult and Outreach Services Librarian, she will have many opportunities to put her commitment to diversity and equity into practice.

We wish Dorothy all the best on her new journey. Her last day will be Saturday, April 1 (sadly, this is not an April Fool’s prank). Please wish her well if you see her this week.
