Welcome Shannon Duffy, Operations Manager

The Library is excited to welcome Shannon Duffy to our team as our new Operations Manager. In this role, Shannon will work closely with the Director, sharing responsibility for library administration, finances, and facilities, as well as overseeing the Materials Services Department. 

Shannon comes to us with over four years of experience in Operations, most recently at Magic + Might, a Chicago-based design, research, and strategy firm. She also has  over 7 years of library experience and is looking forward to combining her skill sets in the Operations Manager position.  

While a student at North Central College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, Shannon worked at the college’s library as part of a work/study program. During this time, she developed her love of libraries. After working her way up, she landed at the reference desk and discovered that she enjoyed the challenge of helping people find information on different niche topics. Though Shannon’s major was in broadcasting, she enjoyed her job so much that she chose to work in libraries after graduating. Shannon went on to earn a Master of Library and Information Sciences  from Dominican University, while also gaining library work experience. 

Shannon says she spends her free time “consuming and creating as much art as possible.” This includes reading all types of genres, such as celebrity biographies, weird and funny graphic novels, and anything that is set in Chicago. She is also a fan of horror movies, all kinds of TV, and has also played guitar since she was 13 years old. Who knows, maybe we’ll enjoy a guitar performance by Shannon in the future?
