Work on Counting Skills

Counting everything in sight is a fun way to increase your child’s early mathematical literacy—the number of steps into the house, the number of stuffed animals on the bed, or the number of plates on the table.  Make counting a full sensory experience to help reinforce number sense.  Let your child point, touch, and manipulate items as you count and remember to have fun vocalizing out loud.  As your child becomes a proficient counter you can then introduce the numerals, the written symbols.
