Enjoy Nursery Rhymes
Nursery rhymes, the faithful companions of early childhood, are not only fun to recite and remember they encourage the listening and speaking skills that lead to reading readiness. The rhyming format makes it easier for children to memorize and to pick out phonemes, the individual sound units that make up words. Try reciting old favorites off the cuff like Hickory Dickory Dock when you hear an alarm or clock go off or Jack and Jill when your child falls. Perhaps the greatest benefit of singing, saying, and reading rhymes is that you are introducing the importance of sounds, words, and stories in an enjoyable creative way.
