The Village of River Forest has achieved official Dementia Friendly status from the Dementia Friendly America network of communities. A Dementia Friendly community is a village, town, city, or county taking action to ensure people with dementia can live independently for as long as possible. Our own Adult Programming Librarian, Meghan O’Keefe, was part of the initiative to achieve this status by advocating the many programs the Library offers to seniors.
Meghan has also been working with representatives from River Forest Township and Oak Park Senior Services to design and deliver monthly Memory Cafes, including activities that exercise and strengthen memory. Memory Cafes are open to all, and meet at the Oak Park Senior Services Center on the third Tuesday of the month from 1:30 to 3 PM. Congratulations, Meghan, on a job well done and an exciting new program! Find out more information about Memory Cafes.
