Early Literacy Tip—December 2018

Play Board Games

With the upcoming school break, not to mention cold winter nights, this is the perfect time to play board games with your family.  Playing games is an excellent way to spend fun time together away from screens.  As an added bonus, board games are rich in learning opportunities including:

*number and shape recognition, grouping, and counting

*letter recognition and reading

*visual perception and color recognition

*hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity

*social skills including sharing, taking turns, and focusing

Try some classic favorites for younger children:  Chutes & Ladders, Candy Land, Bingo, Hi Ho Cherry-O, Trouble, and Uno.
