Play with a Pumpkin
Fall is a great time to explore pumpkins! Use one small, manageable pumpkin for sensory play, art, and math fun.
Sensory Play: Cut off the top of a pumpkin and allow your child to dig inside and describe the different textures—smooth outside, stringy inside, hard seeds. Place contents on a tray for further exploration or place some of the insides in a plastic bag for sensory squishing.
Art: Take the cut top with stem and use it as a stamper with paint on paper. Design a cool jack-o-lantern face.
Math: Weigh your pumpkin before cutting. Estimate its weight once cleaned and weigh again. Measure the circumference and count the number of seeds.
