September is Library Card Sign-Up Month:

Get Children their Own Library Cards

Here are some tips to make the most of your child’s first library card:

* Pick out a sturdy library-only bag that your child can use for their books. Maybe they are allowed to check out as many books as they can fit in their library bag—be sure it’s big!

*Find a small pouch, wallet, or colorful envelope where they can keep their library card.

*Encourage your child to ask a librarian to help find books.

* Ask a librarian to show your child how to use the self-check kiosk.

* Designate a special spot in your home where your library books and bag are kept so they are easy to find and return.

*Mark library book due dates on your calendar, or hang the checkout receipt in a visible spot.

*Come visit often!
