Early Literacy Tip – February 2017

Short & Sweet

The first literacy skill is developing an interest in and enjoyment of books and reading.  This starts at birth!  Because babies have very short attention spans, keep reading sessions brief and fun.  Unless your baby really wants to, you don’t have to read for more than 2-3 minutes at a time and you do not need to finish every book.  When they lose interest, go on to another activity and read more later.  Keep books everywhere—the diaper bag, the car, and the kitchen so you’ll be ready to pick up and read at every opportunity.
