Early Literacy Tip – November 2016

Use Stuffed Animals as Reading Tools
Turn reading into playtime and put their favorite stuffed animals to work while encouraging literacy. Stuffed animals can:
*Become reading buddies– encourage your child to read out loud to a favorite stuffed animal or two. Since kids are not as self-conscious about stumbling over words when reading to a stuffed friend they can improve their fluency.
*Be used as page turners or even word pointers.
*Serve as a story character or the star of your budding storyteller’s latest made up tale. Let your child place their animals in positions that mimic the action in the story and let them speak the dialogue.
