Programs for Teens

June Teen Programs

Summer Reading Kicks off June 1st with a fun lawn party from 1-4 PM. Join us in the park and sign up for Summer Reading! This year’s theme is “Reading is Delicious”. The program will run through August 3rd.

Friday, 6/1, 1-4 PM, Summer Reading Kickoff Party
Start your summer off right! Residents of all ages are invited to sign up for summer reading and then join us in the park for a kickoff party. We will have a moon walk, an inflatable obstacle course, popcorn and lawn games for all summer reading participants.

Saturday, 6/2, 9 AM-5PM & Sunday, 6/3, 1-9 PM, High School Study Central
High School students– head to the RFPL to study for exams this semester! We’ll stay open late on Sunday, our meeting room will be reserved for groups to study together, and we’ll have snack breaks for studiers throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday!

Wednesday, 6/6, 10:30-11:30 AM, Books ‘N Bagels
Teens entering grades 6+, stop by the library hear about new books, talk about what you’re reading, play games and enjoy some delicious breakfast treats!

Thursday, 6/7, 7-9 PM Teen Movie Night
Teens entering grades 6+, come enjoy a movie with popcorn! Films shown this summer will be food-themed to connect to our Summer Reading program, “Reading is Delicious.”

Tuesday, 6/12, 7-8 PM, Teens Make Frushi!
In honor of our Summer Reading theme: “Reading is Delicious,” teens entering grades 6+ are invited to the RFPL to learn to make “Frushi” (fruit sushi), a delicious healthy treat. All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged.

Wednesday, 6/13, 1:30-3:30 PM, Open Gaming
All ages are invited to drop in and play Wii Games and board games.

Thursday, 6/14, 3-4:30 PM, Tweens Decorate Flip-Flops!
Kids and teens entering grades 5-8 are invited to the library to make their own customized fabulous flip-flops! You’ll want to wear these sandals all summer long. All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged.

Tuesday, 6/19, 3-4 PM, Teens Make Delicious Fruit Smoothies
Teens entering grades 6+, cool off by making a delicious smoothie. Determine the perfect smoothie recipe and stay to chat about what you’re reading! All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged.

Thursday, 6/21, 7-8:30 PM, Teen Trivia
Teens entering grades 6+, come test your knowledge and have a blast at Teen Trivia. We’ll have fun, snacks, and prizes! Come with a team of up to 4 players, or come on your own and we’ll match you to a team.

Tuesday, 6/26, 3-4:30 PM (grades 4-6) & 7-8:30 PM (grades 7+), Apron Art
Kids and Teens, celebrate our Summer Reading theme: “Reading is Delicious” by designing your own apron. You can make an apron for yourself or make one to give as a gift. All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged. Kids entering grades 4-6 will make aprons from 3-4:30 PM & teens entering grades 7+ will make aprons from7-8:30 PM.

Wednesday, 6/27, 1:30-3:30 PM, Open Gaming
All ages are invited to drop in to play Wii Games and board games.

Wednesday, 6/27, 7-8 PM, Middle School Book Discussion
Teens entering grades 6+, don’t miss the middle school summer book discussion. Books will be available for pick-up at the circulation desk. The first 5 resident participants to register will get a free copy of the book to keep! Snacks will be provided.

July Teen Programs

Tuesday, 7/10, 7-8:30 PM, Teens Make Salsa & Fresh Squeezed Lemonade sponsored by Whole Foods Market
Teens entering grades 6+ are invited to the RFPL to join staff from Whole Foods Market and learn to make delicious, healthy salsa and fresh lemonade. All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged.

Wednesday, 7/11, 7-8 PM, Graphic Novel Book Discussion
Teens entering grades 6 and up are invited to attend a discussion of the graphic novel Foiled by Jane Yolen. The books will be available for pick-up at the circulation desk. The first 5 resident participants to register will get a copy of the book to keep! Snacks will be provided.

Thursday, 7/12, 3-7 PM, RFPL Bookswap
Kids and teens entering grades 5 and up- are you looking to get some new books? Want to recycle some old books you’ve already read? Head to the RFPL Bookswap! Donate your old books to the swap in advance from June25th-July 11th to get coupons towards new books at the Bookswap.

Friday, 7/13, 7-9 PM, After-Hours Scavenger Hunt
Teens entering grades 6+, explore you library after hours. Follow the clues and figure out the riddles in this scavenger hunt. There will be snacks and prizes!

Wednesday, 7/18, 1:30-3:30 PM, Open Gaming
All ages are invited to drop in to play Wii Games and board games.

Wednesday, 7/18, 7-8:30 PM, Teens Make Potato Chip Bag Accessories
Teens entering grades 6+, drop in and make a fabulous bag, purse, or pencil case out of old potato chip bags! All materials will be provided. Space is limited so sign-up is encouraged.

Tuesday, 7/24, 7-9 PM, Teen Movie Night

Teens entering grades 6+, join us for a discussion of Divergent by Veronica Roth. Books will be available for pick-up at the circulation desk in advance. The first 5 resident participants to register will get a copy of the book to keep! Snacks will be provided.

Thursday, 7/26, 7-8:30 PM, Teen Manga Mania Night
Teen Manga lovers entering grades 6+—head to the RFPL to make candy sushi and have fun with other manga-related activities!

August Teen Programs

Wednesday, 8/8, 1:00-2:30 (Grades 2-5), and 3-4:30 (Grades 6-8), Mario Kart Tournament
Kids and teens in grades 2-8 are invited to prove their racing skills by participating in a Mario Kart tournament. Children entering grades 2-5, register at the children’s desk and join the tournament at 1 PM. Teens in grades 6-8, register at the 2nd floor reference desk and join the tournament at 3 PM.

Thursday, 8/23, Family Lawn Games! 3:30-5:30 for Teens, 5:30-7:30 PM for Families
Have fun on the RFPL lawn with Bocce, Croquet and other fun, outdoor
games!

Friday, 8/24, 7-9:30 PM, Teen Summer Reading Fabulous Finishers’ Party
Teens who complete the Teen Summer Reading Program are invited to the RFPL for a fabulous after-hours party! Come for pizza & ice cream and have a blast in the library!

Tuesday, 8/28, 2:00-3:30, Sharpie Tie-Dye
All ages are invited to drop by the Library Lawn for some creative fun! Bring 1 or 2 cotton items (such as a t-shirt, pillowcase or socks) to tie-dye with sharpies.
