Thank you for your comments, we will investigate the possibilities. 58. Oak Park Public Library allows patrons to bring in covered beverages. Why
not here? 64. The library should subscribe to the Washington Post. 71. Change SWAN to allow one to renew mildly overdue books over the web

Return to top of page 98. Let kids 12 and up on the computer without a permission slip. 102. Please replace the nice landscaping that was torn out. The mud and mulch
is not too inviting. Replace the healthy Ginko you cut down. The rest of the
library and staff is great!! 108. Get new doors for the bathroom stalls. They are beat up and the locks
are jammed. 113. I am so grateful for RF library. During my 8 years working and living at Concordia University it has always been so comforting to come and get a book or music and talk with employees. I am especially grateful for the help I received from the reference dept. when I used the computers for job hunting. It was definitely a lifeline when I was at such a low point. It is with a tear in my eye that I turn in my RF library card, but I will always be grateful for the help, kindness and culture that you offered me. Thanks again to all! Thank you for your wonderful comments. We are so happy to have been of service. 114. I would like to see a clock in the reading rooms where the fireplaces are. This is a great idea. We will add it to the list of interior improvements we will be making very soon. 115. I have noticed that there is a greater variety of very good books in the New Section of the library. It has made for great summer reading. Thank you. You are very welcome. If there are additional titles you would like us to consider purchasing please let us know. 116. I am a patron of the RF library and a few days ago I requested a book through Reference and I was amazed how quickly I received the book. Thank you very much for your fast service. Thank you for the compliment. 117. Please offer computer classes like Oak Park PL- Beyond the Basics, Resources for Travel and Introduction to the WWW. The first computer training class we will be offering is a Computer Catalog Training Class. This class will begin in September and will be offered twice a month through December. See the Fall Program Brochure for specific dates and times. 118. My reference request today led to a savings of $152. I was trying to have an oriental rug cleaned. One establishment gave me a price of $300 and it would take 2 weeks. I knew there was another establishment in Hinsdale. When I called directory assistance they could not supply the phone number for the Hinsdale business, but the reference staff at the RFPL were able to find it. I phoned they only charge $148 and will have it ready in 1 week. Thank you RFPL. You are welcome, thank you for the testimonial. Please tell your friends and neighbors. 119. I used to go to the Forest Park Public Library because they had a better fiction section, but in the last few months your new fiction section has been just great- today I stopped in and there was a novel on the shelf I had just read about in People. How exciting! We are so happy you are enjoying the new selections, be sure to let us know if there are other titles you would like us to consider for purchase. 120. I use the remote catalog so frequently that I created a sticky label with my library card number on it to adhere to my computer monitor, because this number is just too long for me to commit to memory. What if the library provided people a label that they could fill out and use for this purpose? We will consider your suggestion. 121. I have a long list of authors that I like to read, but I never make it past the new book shelves to go find any of them! Ive really enjoyed the new selections and check out a stack every time Im here. We are so glad to hear you are enjoying the new selections, please let us know if there are titles you would like us to consider for purchase. 122. I would like to see The Magic Diamond by Cassandra Bell available at the library. Thanks. We will
consider this title for purchase. 123. Get rid of the security alert screens. They come up 20 times each when Im on EBAY. Even when clicking on the Do not show this message in future They come right back. We will investigate this issue. 124. Recommend library consider new chairs for use at computers. Ergonomics are not good with current chairs. May want to consider vinyl or leather for easy care. Love the new flat screen PCs. We could not agree more and we are happy to say the Friends of the RFPL have generously offered to purchase 6 new chairs for the adult computer stations. They should be arriving soon. 125. Add Virginia Moe to the list of RF authors. She wrote the book titled, Animal Inn published in 1949. The book was stories of Trailside Museum located here in River Forest. Thank you for letting us know. We will add her to the list we maintain both in print and on our website. If you are aware of other RF authors, please let us know. 126. Mangas to get for the library (just ideas): Samurai Gun, Fushigi Yugi Genbu Kaiden, Model, Flowers of the Deep Sleep, Mouryou Hiden, Legend of the Nymph, Confidential Confessions. We will consider adding these titles. 127. Please bring back transportation! We have interfiled the transportation books with the picture books, to make room for a new books area. The large red T sticker will remain on these books and will be placed on new books of this subject to make it easy to identify them in the picture book area. This interfiling allows children the opportunity to branch out and discover new subject areas while they locate their favorite Transportation titles. 128. One of the staff at the circulation desk was extremely helpful. This is a very accommodating library-what a treat. Other libraries should take a few notes on how to manage themselves like your library. Thank you for your wonderful compliments. 129. Columbus Day 2005- Thank God youre open, I love this place. We are so glad you enjoy visiting the library. 130. Thank you for all the work you did to give me the book. You are very welcome. 131. Have you ever considered offering the option of having a key tag library card? Similar to the ones for Blockbuster or Jewel. Do they even exist? I am just curious I think it might be handy! We are currently investigating new library card options and the key tag is one possibility. The Head of Circulation is investigating to see what if any other libraries have experienced using the key tag cards. 132. On a recent visit, I used the computerized card catalog and had an item come up missing, then a helpful staff person discovered the item on the shelf for me, but to my dismay when I took it to the checkout desk I was told I could not have this item because it was on hold for someone else. The whole process did not feel very user friendly. I love the library, it has a great atmosphere. I suggest the card catalog/computer be more user friendly and correct and dont take the book away that a patron excitedly found. Thank you for your comments. We are aware of the many difficult situations that inaccurate data in the catalog creates and are striving for improved accuracy of data entry and material check-in to prevent such non-customer friendly experiences from occurring. 133. This Halloween have a fireside story hour inside the library around the fireplace upstairs, read a great ghost story, create a great memory. What a fantastic idea!! See our program brochure or the web calendar for more details about our Family Halloween program scheduled for Friday, October 28, 2005 as a result of your suggestion. 134. Two comments were received regarding large numbers of middle school students in the library beginning at 3:15 PM. Concern was expressed regarding library staff making an effort to enforce patron conduct guidelines, high levels of noise and a lack of places to sit. It was suggested that we post signs which state Any homework requiring conversation be limited to the group study rooms or the downstairs meeting room. Staff are actively working both to enforce the Patron Conduct Guidelines and to assist the many students in finding sources needed to complete their homework, as well as reading material. We continue to educate the students regarding the resources available at the library in terms of study materials and study space. We are also actively soliciting donations to support a new program we are calling ASK@ the River Forest Library which stands for After School Kids @ the River Forest Library. An outline of the program has been developed and $9,000 are needed to funds a structured after school program in the meeting room for the remainder of the school year. If you have ideas, or suggestions regarding possible funds for this program, please let us know. 135. Please purchase 30 Days of Night: Return to Barrow and 30 Days of Night: Bloodsucker Tales Volume 1. We will consider adding these titles. 136. A patron visited the library and asked for the Short Story Criticism books. The librarian took this opportunity to show her the Literature Resources Database to which the library subscribes and the amount of information it contains on this subject. After the instructional session the patron responded by saying, I am so happy I stopped in the Library today!!
Return to top of page 137. The on-line system is very convenient and easy to use. I very much appreciate the convenience of borrowing books from different libraries with a few simple clicks. Thank you. We are so glad to be of service. 138. Put some green baskets upstairs thats when we realize we need one. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We were not currently aware of their absence. 139. Infant CPR class hosted by the Fire Department. Refresher for parents. We will look into providing this in the future 140. The front door of our library sets the tone of the place. The new door lacks the classic look of the late 1920s theme. Why wasnt the old glass saved and reset in zinc, rather than the softer, weaker lead. It wouldnt have been that difficult. Whats done is done, but it could have been done a lot better; cheaper too Im betting! The side lights have been preserved for future use. The new door was constructed to be more durable, yet retain the look of the 1920s version. 141. Bike racks need to be redone so adult and teen bikes can lock front wheel with modern U-lock. This means: opening needs to be somewhat higher, a little wider, and a bit farther from the wall. Thank you for bringing this to our attention this is one of many capital improvements we are working to address. 142. Maybe if you hadnt cancelled Fireside Chats last year, more people would be attending now. Fireside Chats were not cancelled last year, though the programming always breaks for the summer. There were four Fireside Chats held: September 2004 Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, led by Professor Sweeney. 27 people attended. October 2004 Led by Redd Griffen. 15 people attended. January 2005 Dubliners by Joyce, led by Charlie Hooks. 12 people attended. April 2005 Katherine Mansfield short story, led by Dr. Rogner. 12 people attended. We appreciate your input. If you have any suggestions for how to further promote these programs, please let us know. 143. I just wanted to write to let you know about one of your wonderful employees at the front circulation desk. She always has a smile on her face, and she is always ready, willing, and able to help the library patrons. Thank you for your compliment. We are happy to be of service. 144. Adult program attendance could be increased by putting the table back in the hallway with a sign up book and brochures. You bring up a good point the program brochures are not as readily available and the adult program posters are not as visible as they should be. We will be placing program brochures on both the high and low circulation desks and a new program display board will be placed in the front vestibule. 145. The landscaping is awful and needs improvement. Why dont you call the Garden Club and see if they would help. Yes, the landscaping or lack of is one of many capital improvements that we plan to make in the near future. The Garden Club was contacted a few years ago. We will contact the Garden Club again and see if they would be interested in helping us with this matter. We are happy
to be of service. 146. I think kids should be able to play games at the kids computers. As a result of several student requests, games are currently allowed at all times on a trial basis with homework taking precedence. 147. Just tried to renew my daughters book and found the system difficult to figure out. And Im actually fairly computer literate! I dont have a PIN, and although the program said I would be taken to a screen that would let me choose and confirm one, I couldnt figure out how to get to that screen. If I couldnt figure it out, I wonder if there are others out there who are also confused. Here are some steps to follow if you would like to try again. 1. Go to the library catalog. 2. Click on My Account. 3. Enter your name first then last. 4. Enter your library barcode number 21865 5. Enter a word or number you would like to use for your pin. 6. Click on the Submit button on the lower left side. 7. Another screen will come up asking you to confirm your pin. 8. Click on the Items Checked Out link. 9. Select the item/s you wish to renew. 10. Click Renew Selected Items. Please feel free to give us a call sometime and we will step you through the process, or stop by and we can show you how, or we offer a class twice a month where we teach not only how to do this, but also search tips and strategies for the entire catalog. 148. In regards to: to the adult programs they have not been well attended! The reason: We are not able to sign up (near the book check in desk) as we did formerly. This practice always had been a reminder of future programs available. Now we need to go upstairs to have someone put our name on the list. Im sure that if you change this system as suggested you will have an increase in attendance. Many of my senior friends agree with me. Mother Jones program was wonderful and well attended. We agree the sign up process is not working, so in the future sign in will only be required for programs offered for a limited number of people due to supplies like the starfolding or gardening programs. The program guide listing all Adult, Teen and Childrens programs is available on the 1st floor at the circulation desk and a new bulletin board has been installed in the front entryway showing programs of this week and next week. 149. In non fiction area there are numbers at the end of the rows. Could you put what the numbers represent? As 200 Religion, 600 Food and Cookbooks. This way patrons can get a little more help or perk an interest in something different! Great idea. We will look into improving this type of signage as part of our capital improvements. 150. I noticed that the Senior Center in the Oak Park Arms cafeteria (5th Floor) has a tiny (5 shelf) library of dog-eared books and paperbacks. Maybe 120 books total. They could probably use a transfusion of our $.25 books. Maybe the OP Library could donate a few books too. Im not talking a ton of books here; but a couple of boxes might be nice. Thank you for this idea. We have contacted the organization as a result of this comment. 151. Subscription to Nickelodeon Magazine A subscription was ordered on December 9, 2005. 152. Much less books on tapes We have
removed 50 books on tape from our catalog that either had not circulated in over
5 years or were lost or missing from the shelves. We currently own 568 books on
tape and 395 books on CD and continue to purchase more of each. 153. Santa on 12/17/05 was the best we have ever visited. We love the library! Thank you for your comments. We are so glad you enjoyed the program. 154. I would
like to suggest 5 audio books for purchase by the library. Thank you for your suggestions. We will be adding titles 2-5 and are looking for #1. 155. Mangas: Thank you for your suggestions. These titles will be considered. 156. Would it be possible to resume the after school program using volunteers from OPRF or one of the local colleges? It would be such a great thing. I know you have lost funding. Thanks. We are working to find funding to make the after school program available again. We can investigate the volunteer idea. 157. It would be nice to have coat racks or hooks so there arent coats lying all over. A place for bookbags would be good too. We agree and plan to address this as we continue to make capital improvements to our building. 158. made the extra effort to find a DVD that was supposedly out. She found it instead of getting me off the phone as fast as she could. Customer Service is appreciated in any business and lessons can be learned from politeness and the extra effort. Hats off to in Reference. Thank you for the compliment. It will be shared with the staff member. 159. We love your library! Idea: Family Lego Building Morning or Afternoon on a Saturday AM or PM, or Sunday PM. Kids (with a parent) bring a Lego set (from home) and the family builds together on a table in the upstairs library. Serve hot chocolate and hot cider. Limit to 3 hours max and advertise in the local papers. Take photos and post. Maybe if it is a hit, do it one time per month. Maybe add a brief children oriented presentation by the Frank Lloyd Wright home. After all, maybe the next Frank Lloyd Wright is a child in the neighborhood. The childrens library is usually a little chaotic (normal), so the thought would be to have the Lego building on the table at the West end of the second floor and perhaps limit to K-4 or k-6, so that little people underfoot with shorter attention spans could be in the childrens library (with a parent). Thank you for your comment. We will consider your program suggestions. 160. We need hooks for childrens jackets at their level. We agree. This will be addressed as we continue to make capital improvements to the building. 161. I do not like having a receipt printed when I check out books. Can you bring back date due cards? The date due
card process used in the past by the River Forest Public Library is no longer
available. If you would like a hand stamped card when you are checking out,
please inform a member of the circulation staff. Thank you for the Suggestions, if you have more please let us know. Revised: 9/15/07 |

Thank
you for your suggestions.
